What are you knitting?

I realised over the weekend that all my current WIPs are patterns by Ysolda Teague. It's fair to say that 5 years on from discovering Ysolda's patterns, i'm still quite besotted with her design style. Above you can see two versions of the Follow Your Arrow Mystery Knit Along: the left in Zealana Kiwi Laceweight, and the right in Knitsch Sock Sinatra (a yarn club colour from last year). The gold is Pumpkin Ale, knit in Malabrigo Rios in Sunset

The other thing which pleases me greatly is they're all primary colours. Completely unintentional, but I like how it's worked out that way. The blue Follow Your Arrow is finished and waiting to be blocked; the red is in the naughty corner until I can find some 120% concentration time to figure out how on earth Clue 5B works.
While i'm navel-gazing over projects, what are you knitting at the moment?

Knit Night is back!

Hip hip hooray! After a wee summer break, Knit Night starts back today. It's also our third birthday - hooray! I can't believe how quickly three years have run past, and how much fun we've had along the way. Thank you so much for all your amazing support - we couldn't do this thing without you.

So! Knit Night! Every Thursday, alternating between the two shops. If you can't make it out to Petone, we'll be keeping our Grand Arcade doors open longer every second Thursday for our town peeps to come and relax among the yarn.

To further celebrate Petone's third birthday, we have a bunch of specials! 30% off all Cascade Sport (non-superwash), Zealana Willow, Echo cotton (all in Petone only) and 20% off all Waikiwi sock (both stores). Also in Petone - a basket of cheap treats! Huzzah! All specials on until Sunday 23 February.

P.S Our Petone shop is back to normal hours again: 10am - 5pm Wed - Fri, 10am - 4pm Sat, 11am - 3pm Sun.

Road to China Light - pattern ideas

Hello! It has been a while...this two-shops thing has reduced my blogging mojo to about nothing, so i'm going to ease back into it with a few pattern ideas for our brand new yarn: The Fibre Co's Road to China Light. An incredible soft yarn in jewel colours, it's a true treat of fibre mix - baby alpaca, silk, camel and cashmere.

It's been selling like hot cakes and i'm trying to figure out what small yet delectable item to knit out of it. Road to China Light is one of those yarns that should be next to your skin. Something to pull up over your nose on chilly days, or fingerless mitts to pull on at work when it's so cold your hands protest at having to type on the keyboard.

Those days still seem far off in the distance in the middle of NZ summer, but i'm one for forward planning and I really can't wait for a chill edge on the air again.

Happy knitting! And hopefully more blogging from now on!

Willis St is now open!

Hooray! The last few days have been amazing - we've loved seeing every single person who has come to check out Holland Road Yarn Co's second shop, upstairs in the Grand Arcade on Willis St. Here's a few pics i've managed to sneak between the busy-ness....

And we now have The Fibre Company's Road to China Light in stock - a luxurious mix of baby alpaca, silk and cashmere.

The Grand Arcade store is open 10 - 5 Tues to Fri, and 10 - 4 Saturday. Petone is still open, on summer hours of 11-4 Wed - Sat until mid February when it goes back to normal hours.

Thanks so much to you, our wonderful customers and supporters who have allowed the second store become a reality!

New shop update - so close!

As I write this, there are precisely 5 days, 19 hours and 38 minutes until the new shop opens.
Above, i'm sitting on the floor of the empty shop, wondering where on earth to start!
It's been a frantic week, ordering stock, cleaning carpet, sanding doorways, dyeing yarn, organising all the annoying things that are crucial to a shop being able to operate. You know, eftpos, power, internet, phone...
I have managed to sit, knit and breathe though. I'm so excited for this new space, and for it means for knitters (and crocheters and spinners and weavers). The first new yarn line that we'll be carrying is The Fibre Company's Road to China Light, and i'm very hopeful it will arrive before Friday so that it can be on the shelves in time for Tuesday's opening.
You probably want the details, right?

Holland Road Yarn Co (the second)

Upstairs, Grand Arcade, 16 Willis St

Open 10am, Tuesday 21 January

There's a good chance we won't have eftpos up and running, because our phone won't be connected (sigh). BUT we will be able to take credit & debit card payments via our online system and there is an ATM downstairs. So we will manage until it is sorted for us on Wednesday.

I better get back to the mega list. And getting excited. 5 days!!
